Showcase: Data Dashboard, 0-1 Revenue Management, and HR Training Software

Overview

In addition to my first two projects, I worked on several other design and research initiatives, including a dashboard for the San Jose Sharks at their home stadium, SAP Center, aimed at improving their attendees’ game-day experience. I also collaborated with teams globally, such as with Mars Russia on design workshops, as well as designing a SuccessFactors fix for a customer in Korea. These projects refined my skills in data visualization, UX research, and prototyping.

My Role: Product Designer

Results: Delivered for implementation

First, Data Dashboard

With AppHaus, SAP’s consulting arm, I took the initiative to meet early and often with San Jose Sharks representatives and align on which metrics were the most important. The final design I delivered showcased key metrics and customized graphs tailored to the Sharks’ specific needs. I manipulated the data so that it was both accessible and actionable for their team.

Next, 0-1 Revenue Management

With Eureka, a SAP innovation unit, I was part of a research-focused team tasked to innovate in the revenue management space of consumer packaged goods which featured companies like: Mars, Coca Cola, and Nestlé. At the start of the project, I curated lead lists searching with specific criteria, combing through results, and procuring promising profiles. Then, I scheduled interviews with participants.

I created moderation guides to structure my interviews, and during interviews, took notes on Mural.I also facilitated sections of design workshops with international customers. This is a snapshot of the mural board from a session I held with Mars, the chocolate bar company. I talked to their Russia office’s revenue growth managers about their “as-is” solution for revenue planning and what their “to-be” looked like.

I summarized the information learned from our interviews & workshops into insights. This took the form of a powerpoint that I presented to the larger product team.An eye-opening learning was the overwhelming majority of revenue managers use Excel for their work. Very old-fashioned. I helped the product team determine there was an opportunity to design a dynamic tool where revenue managers would have powerful optimized plans at their disposal. I also learned which goals & constraints were valued the most when planning, and influenced our product team’s decision to include the consumption volume variable in our optimization tool.

With a concept in our minds, I created a design library complete with fonts, colors, and components with variants in Figma, so the product team could-
quickly create prototypes and test with customers to further our R&D efforts. This design library ended up being used across SAP’s Newport Beach office.

Lastly, HR Learning Software

With SuccessFactors, SAP’s HR offering, I facilitated a JTDB workshop with product managers to align the product team on the core improvement we wanted to make for the Learning tool. The workshop revealed the Learning tool was an afterthought and people only used it to pass compliance checks.Instead of thinking “what if we built x or y feature ”, I provoked the conversation into a big picture space where we landed on the question, "how can we strengthen the relationship between learners and managers?" In the end, we agreed to focus on feedback features to strengthen relationships and make the tool meaningful for learners. With the direction defined, I delivered designs for all breakpoints and operating systems including: desktop and mobile web, android mobile, and iOS.

Here are Android mobile wireframes, featuring the input field fix I designed for a customer in Korea. As shown on the left, the input field for “feedback topic” was cutting off characters they typed so I increased the height of the input field, solving the urgent request.
I also added a maximum characters message to account for technical constraints.

These are components for iOS. I mastered the Fiori Next design system and set components to their “cozy” variant which is a characteristic designed for fingertip interaction, whereas breakpoints that allowed or called for high information density used “compact” variants.

In 2023, SAP released their newest design system, Fiori Next.

The implementation made the design:
• Easier to browse by separating info into multiple pages.
• Provided seamless cross-platform experience.
• Aligned with design principles of SAP central design team.

This design showcases the characteristics of the new design system: rounded corners, new icons, new font, and new colors.

Epilogue

My impact as a designer with SAP's Eureka (incubation unit) and SuccessFactors includes driving meaningful UX improvements through thoughtful research and design. With Eureka, you conducted UX research to support innovative projects, providing insights that shaped emerging solutions. At SuccessFactors, your work focused on enhancing UI and usability, implementing improvements that contributed to a more intuitive and efficient user experience for one of SAP’s flagship products. My contributions reflect a balance of strategic research and hands-on design that drove user satisfaction and product excellence.
